Getting on Facebook’s Brown Network

Need a Brown e-mail address to join the Brown network on Facebook? (And those great Brown-network-only groups?) No problem! You can qualify for the Brown network using a Brown alumni e-forwarding address. Here’s how it works:

1. Get your Brown alumni e-forwarding address.

1. Log into Brown Alumni Online (If you need password help, follow the suggestions on the screen.)
2. Create your E-Forwarding account
3. Log into your Facebook profile and add your new e-forwarding address as an additional e-mail address

2. Join the Brown Network.

Facebook is de-emphasizing networks, so this is not as obvious as it used to be, but these tips should help.

If you are in the “new” Facebook layout:

1. Be sure your @alumni.brown.edu address is in your Facebook profile, even if it is not your primary e-mail address
2. Then click “Settings” (left of the search box at top right)
3. Then select “Networks” tab
4. Then type “Brown” into “Join a network” and follow the prompts

If you are in the “old” Facebook layout:

1. Select Profile tab
2. Then select “Edit my profile”
3. Then select “Edit contact info”
4. Then select “Add a network”

Here you should be able to list Brown as a network, select status as “Alumnus/Alumna,” and you may be asked to give your alumni.brown.edu address.
