Leslie King

LPK@Brown Graduation
LPK on May 27th, 1991

I’ve picked up a pair of professional degrees since that fateful day in May 1991, and I am now an Emergency Medicine physician based in Portland, Oregon.  I have traveled extensively throughout the West and Alaska working with our nation’s Native American population. As a Brunonian, I pride myself on remaining ahead of the curve, as I am now plotting my mid-career change about a decade early. I’ll be utilizing my global public health skills at a non-governmental agency focused on humanitarian assistance.  My third post-graduate degree will be from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, as gaining expertise in environmental health and studying the impact of climate change on human health will enable me continue my eternal wanderlust while working in the extremely dynamic healthcare profession.

I have always maintained a strong connection with Brown as it remains one of the few institutions on Earth to truly heed the meaning of J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous couplet, “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.”  I enjoy volunteering in a Class Officer capacity, because I find it both rewarding and awe-inspiring to commiserate with such brilliant, energetic and fun individuals who consider me their equal.  I look forward to not only our 20th, but hopefully lots of smaller mini Reunions before May 27, 2011.  In the interim, I hope to continually improve our well-received class website.

Always Ever True,

-LPK
